Infamous Core versus Premium!

Infamous Core versus Premium!

As you may or may not have heard, Xbox 360 was released in two different SKUs (or packages) -- Xbox 360 Premium (360 Primo) and Core. The only major differences in the two, are the accessories. The Xbox 360 Premium package comes with a whole bunch of accessories, but most importantly it comes with a twenty gigabyte hard drive (I will refer to this as the HDD). The HDD acts as a large, portable memory unit that sits on the top of your system (or not, depending on which package you got).

Pricing

In the long run, no it won’t actually save you any money.
The Xbox 360 Premium system costs $399, and with taxes (pending on where you live), accessories, and games, you could wind up paying more than $500 for the system, but remember, you are saving by getting the $99.99 HDD, as well as other accessories (that we'll discuss later on in this article). The Core package costs $299, that’s about one-hundred dollars less than the Premium package, but it doesn’t come with a HDD, one wireless controller, an Xbox Live headset, or an ethernet cable, and if you are lucky enough a special-edition media remote. So some may argue that while the Core system won’t have the accessories the Primium system will – it’ll save the consumer an extra hundred bucks on money, but will it really? In the long run, no it won’t actually save you any money.

Now, the easiest way to piece this thing together is a giant math equation, but who wants to do that? So I’m going to add everything up anyway:

  • Core System: $299.99
  • Component HD/AC Cable: $39.99
  • 20 gigabyte HDD: $99.99
  • XBL Headset: $19.99
  • Wireless Controller: $49.99 (for an extra controller. Subtract $39.99 for the wireless controller replacing the wired for a more accurate sum)
  • Universal Media Remote: $29.99 (if you want it, considering you won't get the special-edition one in the Premium package)
  • One-month XBL Gold: $7.99
  • In the Long Run: $550.00

So the answer to the question, “Is it worth paying the extra hundred for a premium system? Yes. Definately, undeniably yes. As you can see, it will cost you an extra $150 to get the core system with everything that the Premium system has. This is also without adding in the taxes, games expense, and extra accessories such as the. So as you see, it just makes more sense to buy the more expensive system now, because this way you could have all these extra accessories at once, and save yourself some nice cash for a few more games.

Well, good luck with your next purchase!
