I'll be showing you how to setup your silver Xbox Live (I will use XBL as an acronym for this) account on the Xbox360.
The first step of doing this is making sure; there are some precautions you have to take before starting up your new xbl.
1) If you're plugging your Ethernet cable in directly from your modem, and it was previously in a computer, then you must restart your modem - so as to set up your consul IP.
If you plug it in directly from the computer to the 360, then you will be sent to a screen where they test your connections, and it will stop at IP. I warn you, DO NOT CONTINUE, there will be options, they're not necessary as of yet and can ruin your connectivity.
To properly set up your connection, you must first unplug the power connection wire from your modem (not your router) and wait approximately a minute, then plug it in. Wait for the system lights to go solid, and you're done. Plug your Ethernet into the Xbox360 and you can be on your way.
2) Make sure that you're connection is in correctly, and all your plugs are in tightly.
Setting up
Firstly, you've got to turn on your system and load it to the XBL razor (or tab). Then you've got to go down, and you'll find the "Xbox Live" button, click it - don't be afraid of its awesomeness. A gray screen should show up asking you basically to join Xbox Live, you want to scroll down and click enter (A button).
Log out of any existing accounts you have on your Xbox360 (If you don't, then the 360 will ask you anyway, you should click yes. It'll look for connection and ask you to enter the gamer tag of your choice. You can mess around with the caps-lock, number, and letter settings they offer you, but it's all the same.
The first thing it will do is check availability, if you got it - then it should take you to a Passport Network Account - if it doesn't, then you've got to go back and create another one, recover your old one, or show more gamer tags. If you got it on the first try, then you're lucky and original, continue on through the setup!
The Passport account will show you two things, do you have one - or do you want one? If you have one, then type it in and go through the selected settings, if you don't - then you'll have to go through creating one, type in your info, and meet me at the input email address screen. This can be tough, it was for me. They won't allow you to use any free email addresses. Things like Hotmail, Yahoo, or even Gmail are banned. What you can do is use a paid email address, a specific POP3 email or something like AOL, Comcast, and your Optimum Online account, but be careful - once you've put it in, you can't change it, and it's your official email as far as sending you stuff goes.
Now it should take you to the options screen where you can mess with your settings for your account, it's yours for the choosing my friends -- good luck.
