Xbox 360 - Life Begins

Xbox 360 - Life Begins

By Staggs
Posted: November 24, 2005

First things first -- Welcome. This is GetXbox.net (GXN), and I am your host Stephen "Staggs" Agnic. GXN is a brand new Xbox support and fan web site. We'll have the latest in everything ranging from games, support guides, Xbox Live news, marketplace downloads, and much more. Our staff is rolling out new stuff continuously, and we're adding new features every day. As this is the launch of the web site, not everything is 100% ready -- we've got the major parts of the site up. But for the mean time, we've got a lot to tell you!

Shortage Galore

The #1 word that has been stirred around for the past month before the 360's launch is shortage. Shortages around the country are taking many gamers, and moms (dads too) by surprise.

CNN Reports
Complicating matters is Microsoft's plan for a worldwide launch of the 360. That means those initial shipments, whatever they turn out to be, will be split between North America, Europe and Japan. McNealy said he expects Microsoft to send roughly 900,000 to 1 million units to North American retailers, 600,000-800,000 to Europe and another 100,000-200,000 to Japan. Cooper's prediction is more dire, saying there will only be between 300,000 and 350,000 units available in the U.S. on Nov. 22, when the system launches. (Cooper, in a note, said he expects two shipments from Microsoft (Research) this year -- one before launch and another in December.)

The prediction is right. Only 400,000 units were sent out to retailers for the initial launch day; each retailer's supplies were variable from 10 units, to 50, and even some stores had an excess of 100 units. Of course, the supplies varried by store popularity - so the store with 100+ units... was also the store with 500+ campers. If you weren't camping, you weren't getting one.

Told this story will be - Our Journey

...as told by Lucas "Lukrus" Spann

Thats right, we were pulled out of class...
(November 21st 3:18PM) We just left home - Stephen (Staggs), Amin (Xethaec), and myself (Lukrus). We have just left for what I think is the craziest thing I have done -- ever. The Xbox 360 will be released to the public for purchase tomorrow. As the executive staff of GXN we have made it our job to receive the xbox tomorrow. We just reached the highway and are heading for the mall. Just earlier we were called out of school by my mother, who later told us that the lines are already filling. That’s right, we were pulled out of class for the Xbox 360. We were forced to leave Amin behind to rush for our local Walmart - the closest retailer with the Xbox 360. We got there and the numbers of units given to us were wrong! Apparently, they only had 8 core units, and 2 premium units - it was the other way around earlier. We went home, dissatisfied with Core units, and spent 2 hours making phone calls to different stores. A Target in the mall (a state away) was suggested to us by Steve’s mom. School was out and Amin had joined us on this wild ride for the next generation of not just gaming, but life. Here we are, the three of us on this highway, heading for what we hope is the answer. But for now hope is all we have left...

Stay Tuned for the second edition of the GXN team's Xbox 360 war story, coming to you Saturday, December 3rd!

Tip #2

Your Xbox can store music files by ripping music from a CD. The Xbox 360 can read regular CD's as well as CD-R and CD-RW formatted disks.
